We are made of the stories we hear. Throughout life, we are surrounded by dominant narratives—versions of the world repeated so many times that they seem like the only possible reality. But the world is too vast to fit into a single point of view. When only one voice occupies the space, we risk looking at the other through easy stereotypes, distancing ourselves from their true humanity.
Giving space to voices that are usually marginalized is, for us, an important step in understanding life a little better. It requires us to be willing to sit down, question the stories that are handed to us ready-made, and simply truly listen.
At KALAM Editora, we feel that publishing a book is like opening a listening circle. We don’t want to dictate truths, but to offer the paper and the care so that authentic narratives can resonate and build bridges between different cultures and realities.
Reading a story different from our own—written by someone who walks paths we don’t know—is one of the most beautiful acts of empathy. It’s a delicate invitation to expand one’s own world. And our role is simply to try to make sure that invitation reaches you.
